CAMET's basic X-ray analysis services can be divided into two fundamental categories:
Phase Analysis by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
- X-ray powder diffraction describes the interaction of X-rays with the crystalline phase(s) of the sample. The analysis is phase sensitive. It provides information about the chemical makeup of the sample as well as the crystallographic structure of the phase(s).
Elemental Analysis by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
- X-ray fluorescence interprets the characteristic radiation emitted by the elements of the sample upon excitation.The analysis is element sensitive. It provides information about the elemental composition of the sample.
Typical XRD Applications:
- Qualitative and quantitative phase analysis of organic and inorganic compounds and materials such as
- Ores, minerals, ceramics, cement, construction materials and soils
- Chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biomaterials, plastics, foils and sheets
- Corrosion products, environmental contaminants and hazardous materials
- Metals, alloys, castings, welds and welded components
- Thin films and coatings for the semiconductor industry
- Determination of grain alignment (texture) in polycrystalline materials
- Determination of exact crystallographic orientation in mono-crystalline materials (turbine blades, fibers, Si wafers, epitaxial films, etc)
- Determination of residual stresses.
- Determination of micro structural properties (i.e. crystallite size, size distribution, microdeformations, etc)
- Determination of the ratio of amorphous and crystalline fractions
- Determination of precise lattice parameters
